Dear visitor, welcome to my my personal page! This should be a monthly updated page, but since I have been playing all the time, I never made it on time to call it monthly…but here I am!
I just don’t know where to start! North Sea Jazz Festival 2016 was like an emotional roller coaster with so many different and great musicians to play with. This was a special edition to me, thanks to the unforgettable concerts I had with dr. Lonnie Smith’s Evolution, Candy Dulfer, Fresku feat. Special request Horns and the Jazz orchestra of the Concertgebouw. I never made so many new friends in such a short period of time.
Right after the festival we did a little tour with the funky Doctor an his ace band, featuring some of the funkiest mofo’s around, like the brilliant Joe Dyson, Edmundo Carneiro, Jonathan Kreisberg, and my partner in crime on the tenor sax: Gideon Tazelaar. It was great to be on tour with these cats, and I will never forget our time in Paris, and the great concert we did in Germany as the opening act for Santana.
Just made it back on time to do some major shows with dutch superstar Marco Borsato, finishing the upcoming (and funky!) new album of Candy Dulfer, and some gigs with my own quartet, the JvD4!
Talking about the JvD4: We are currently waiting for the vinyl version of our album Dear John, apparently in the beginning of next September. On friday august 19, we will perform live at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, so if you don’t want to wait for my next update here, or simply want to see my ass kicked on stage by a 82 years old drum legend, you might want to meet us there!
Have a great summer with lots of beautiful music.
Cheers, Jan.
