Welcome to what should be my monthly update…. Due to my busy concert-schedule I failed miserably again, but here I am: Back with a lot of fresh news and updates.
2016 has been an amazing year for me so far. First of all because of the many album releases with my own band the JvD4 featuring John Engels, The JazzOrchestra of the Concertgebouw featuring Lonnie Smith, The Jazzinvaders, and many many releases with my Special Request Horns. All in the past 2 months only.
And secondly because of the many inspiring musicians I am currently working with. As some of you might know I will join Dr. Lonnie Smith’s Evolution for a short European tour, starting at the North Sea Jazz Festival in my hometown!! Man, I can hardly wait to share the stage with one of my favorite musical personalities! Please feel free to visit my activity section to see our touring-schedule.
Besides the Doctor, I am currently enjoying the concerts with Fresku, Candy Dulfer, the Jazzorchestra of the Concertgebouw Sanna van Vliet, Racoon and Marco Borsato a lot. I am also looking forward to play some pieces of the Rotterdam-Suite with the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, on different spots in the city of Rotterdam. I am one of the composers of the Suite, and my song is called ” Oso”, which is a tribute to the Rotterdam-Surinam community in Rotterdam, and their contribution to our culture.
One more thing worth mentioning will be the release of our JvD4 record on Vinyl! This will be the first vinyl record of any of my very own projects and after viewing the beautiful cover pictures by Frank Hanswijk, we immediately decided to have a vinyl version of “Dear John” too. Soon to be continued……
And one bit of sad news too: I decided to quit the Jazzinvaders after 10 years in order to create more time for my own projects. ‘Find the love’ was my last cd with them as a co-writer and band member. We had a great time together and I wish the Invaders all the best and many more great albums to be released in the future.
Well, there’s much more to write, but hopefully this has been enough to start with. Please take a look at the rest of the site, and feel free to contact me for questions of any kind. I will be more than happy to answer mails regarding possible reservations for the upcoming vinyl record!
All the best to you.
