Kinderen voor kinderen is a collective of dutch children, singing about daily life issues for children like school stuff , divorcing parents, pets, playing an instrument and so on, but also funny subjects like farts, grandma’s phone addiction or lice. Albums release on an annual basis, for over 40 years already
I used to play many of their records as a kid, dreaming about being a drummer (…) saving the world and being a hunk. So when they asked me in 2013 to spice up some of their songs with our horns I said yes immediately. Actually, I had been secretly hoping they would ask me to play something someday, but it turned out to be a long and fruitful collaboration for more than 8 years already.
One of the reasons for this collab might be I don’t treat it as “ simple music for children”, I only want to add the missing link or just brighten up the whole thing with our signature sound, just as I always try with all the other music I am involved in too, no matter who’s song it is. It’s always about how to make the general story more intense/ happy/ exciting, you name it.
And when the arrangement is really working out well it brings me that same good feeling! Over the years I found at least a couple of songs that I still enjoy listening to.
And one more thing: As a father it feels so good to be on a couple of my son’s favorite tracks, (for now…). Oh, and by the way: Of all records shown and described, the Kinderen voor Kinderen albums were by far there most popular in our house the past 7 years, and my family was proud of me because of these records.…life is great.
